Hello, summer! Sun-soaked, light, refreshing 5-ingredients Orange Melon Agua fresca! Bring a pitcher, please!
Agua fresca or fresh water (also fruit waters – o Agua de frutas – in spanish) is a super simple, delicious, refreshing, light, non-alcoholic cooling drink made by blending fruits and water; specially sell by street vendors on hot summer days when we want to maintain our bodies well hidrated.
Aguas Frescas are very popular in Latin American countries specially in Mexico. In Venezuela where I come from it is very popular to drink Agua de limón (Lime water), Agua de Panela or Papelón con limón (raw hardened cane sugar with lime juice and water) and Agua de tamarindo (tamarind water) to cool down on scorching hot days.
Traditional Aguas frescas call for added sweetners and refined sugar but as we try to make healthy things around here we won’t be using any of that 😉 Why? Simple: Fruits are abundant on natural, healthy, simple sugars, they are wholesome perfect foods! Perfectly ripe fruits = perfectly delicious, sweet, healthy sugary bites!
Artifitial, processed, refined sugars = NOT GOOD for your health. No, No, No! Avoid them at all costs!
Sugar from fruits = EXCELLENT for your health. Yes, Yes, Yes! You want more of these, daily!
My hubby and I couldn’t resist buying a whole case of 15 ripening-soon cantaloup melons last saturday, our official fruit shopping day, so I was super inspired to make Citrusy melon Agua fresca as a cooling refreshment for the piping-hot week. I’d probably eat a complete cantaloup (or two) 😉 before actually sipping up my delicious Orange Melon Agua Fresca! So heavenly irresistible!; can’t believe I dislike cantaloups when I was a little kid!
Alongside with watermelons and freshly squeezed orange juice, Melons are my go-to fruits to start my days off! So sweet, so juicy; succulent sweetness!
Aguas frescas are very easy to make, and very versitile too. The key is to use perfectly ripe fruits for their sweetness, softness, juiciness and rich flavor!. You know Cantaloups are ripe when they have a strong, sweet-smelling and fragrant aroma; but you can also tell by their butt! if the bottom becomes soft at touch and your finger sinks easily, they are ready to eat!
How to make Aguas frescas?
Very simple! Blend together a medium size cantaloup with the juice of 3 oranges and 1/2 to 1 cup of water until smooth. Pour over a large pitcher with ice cubes and you are ready to enjoy this frothy refreshing chiller! Yey!
Drink up this refreshing Orange Melon agua fresca to start your day off, specially on hot summer days to re-hydrate your body and boost your energy naturally!

- I love my Agua fresca just as it is! I don’t strain it, I like it frothy and pulpy, with all the healthy fiber in it; but if you prefer a more light, less pulpy Agua fresca, run your smooth mixture through a strainer, it won’t be as frothy though!.
